In february of 2020 I purchased a dubious cream and soap on facebook to “even out my skin tone”. The fact that the products came with the labels taken off raised my eyebrows, but the glowing reviews made me try it out anyway.
After using it for a couple of weeks, I noticed that my skin had become more supple and was looking brighter and even. BUT I was getting some pimples around my cheek.

I knew right away that It was the product, but I had spent 30 thousand kwacha on it so I was not going to just throw it away. Plus I was getting the desired results in spite of the pimples, so I figured I would use it for a little while and maybe my skin would adjust. This was a mistake because I got more pimples and when I finally gave up things did not improve.
Remedies

Before we get into the remedies, I should mention that my skin is combination skin and the kind of acne I got was a combination of papules and pustules. The first remedy I tried was African Black Soap. And I don’t know if it was the brand I used or what but my acne went from bad to worse. The soap caused inflammations and a terribly itchy break out. After this I tried honey masks sporadically and I saw no noticeable difference. I was so discouraged by the black soap considering everyone says it is amazing and It didn’t work for me so I decided not to try anything else for a while.
Gentle Magic
I don’t know how I got my hands on gentle magic lotion but I remember it just being there and me not using it because I had read scathing reviews online. But eventually I had run out of options and I really had nothing to lose so I gave it a try.

The lotion was harsh and drying. It made my skin incredibly tight and scaly, but at this point I was too scared to put moisturizer on my skin so I just let it stay ashy. After a few days I noticed that my pimples were drying up and scabbing. After a week they were shedding and leaving behind smooth scars.

I let this process go on for at least a month before I decided that my skin was getting dangerously dry. And because I was scared to try other products I ended buying the full range of gentle magic products and they have been working really well for me. I have not had any breakouts in 6 months, the worst of the scarring is over and my skin is even.

As a continuation of my journey, I now want to explore products that will keep my skin hydrated and my pores tight ( going for that Korean glass skin look) because I intend to stop wearing heavy makeup next year so I need to make sure for skin is good for that.

If you are reading this and you have acne, I just want to say that I know having acne can be really embarrassing and it can take a toll on your self-esteem. But it is important to be patient and to remain kind to yourself through the journey because there will come a time when it will all be a distant memory so there is no need to be hard on yourself. Otherwise I wish you the best of luck and glowing skin always.
lots of love,
Xa
disclaimer: while these products worked tremendously well for me, I can not guarantee that they will work for you. In the same way that Black Soap works for a lot of people but it didn't work for me.
Wow, the before and after pics are crazy. I’ve never tried gentle magic so I wouldn’t have known it works so well. I’m glad you got the changes you wanted to see and it’s interesting that black soap didn’t do anything (never tried that either, I just always hear rave reviews 😅). Thank you for sharing x
Ma’am I said African Black Soap made it worse be careful!😂😂😂 thanks for reading 🥰
