Malawi Sun is always the first hotel I recommend to my clients who are on a budget – but do not want to compromise on quality. It’s usually the first time they are hearing of the hotel, but after their stay they become regulars.
I recently had the pleasure of touring their new hotel wing, and I thought I’d do a quick review.
Malawi Sun is perfectly located in the heart of Blantyre CBD, the city’s busy commercial district. Twenty-five minutes by car from Chileka International Airport, the hotel is within walking distance from, banks, corporate offices, restaurants and shopping facilities.

The rooms
As of 2021, the room rates start from as low as 57,000 Kwacha($68) per night, Bed and breakfast.
The older rooms are very spacious and they have balconies from which you can see some of the most breath taking views of Blantyre. Shower cubicles are quiet cramped so that is a con. See the gallery below.
In the new wing, the rooms are smaller. Upstairs the rooms have balconies with views of Blantyre CBD. The bathrooms are a lot more modern and the shower cubicles are very spacious. See the gallery below.
