My Top 4- Budget Accommodations in Cape Maclear

The festive season is almost upon us and it is time to start planning those end of year getaways. And while travel can be expensive, they are ways to cut costs without compromising on comfort. Lucky for you I know a few spots along the lake where you can go live your best life without breaking the bank. From chalets, dorm rooms and cottages – my list covers it all.

Mgoza Lodge

Is the first on this list because it is my favourite lodge in Capemac. It was the first lodge I ever stayed in on the strip and their staff and straw infrastructure left a lasting impression on me.

Mgoza Lodge offers quality accommodation to suit all budgets, including A frame thatched dorms, private huts, uniquely decorated en suite chalets, and a self catering cottage. They are running a covid19 promotion and rates are as below:

Is a charming property in Cape Maclear that features lake-view rooms, as well as dorm rooms to cater to backpackers budget. The lodge boasts “the best breakfast in town”, a swimming pool, bar and restaurant.

Nyanja Cottage

Nyanja cottage is a thatched house in the middle of Cape Maclear with stunning views of the lake and direct access to the beach. There are three spacious double bedrooms (all with mosquito nets & fans), a living area, a small kitchen and plenty of car parking space.

Malambe Camp

Malambe Camp is another property that is dear to me in Cape Maclear. And while I have never spent a night there – I have had plenty of their affordable,delicious and fulfilling meals. Their bar and restaurant is always full of life and is the best place to make new friends from around the globe.

They have simple straw beach huts, dorm rooms and a large fully equipped kitchen for those who prefer to self-cater.

Their current rates are: from MWK 15,000 per hut.

So there you have it, my favourite low budget accommodations in Capemac. I really wanted to have at least 5 properties on this list but out of the several lodges I visited in 2017, these are my favourites in the price range this article was aiming for.
